Call him a creative genius or just plain wacky. Either way Alfred Yankovic has carved his own brand of comedic parodies, polka medleys, and original songs. It began at age 7 with an accordion purchase from a door-to-door salesman. Soon he appeared in the Dr. Demento radio show. The “Weird Al” moniker was added in college since he was not the typical Cal Poly architecture student. The “My Bologna” parody of “My Sharona” was written in a studio restroom. Michael Jackson loved Al’s “Eat It” version of “Beat It”. Then in 2018 fans would raise $40,000 to promote a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the outcast who never fit in.
