Abenaki elder Yvonne M’Sadoques, over a century old, shares her memories of life in Odanak—stories of faith, resistance, and laughter—with filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin. In Waban-Aki: People from Where the Sun Rises, Obomsawin, one of Canada’s foremost documentarians, returns to her home community after decades of chronicling Indigenous lives across the country. Through M’Sadoques’ reflections and her own lens, she crafts a lyrical, intimate portrait of the Abenaki people and the resilience that continues to define them.
