Trick or Treaty? examines the ongoing conflict over Treaty No. 9, which covers much of northern Ontario. While the Canadian government views the treaty as a surrender of Indigenous sovereignty, Cree descendants argue it was meant to share land and resources. Through engaging storytelling, the film follows one community’s struggle to assert its treaty rights and defend its territory, illuminating both the historical injustice and the modern-day complexities of Indigenous–Crown relations in Canada.
